Products Description of Melamine Phosphate (MP) CAS#20208-95-1
Melamine phosphate (MP) is an effective halogen-free flame-retardant compound. It is generally available as a white powder and has the molecular formula C₃H₉N₆O₄P, with a molecular weight of 224.12 g/mol. MP has limited solubility in water, approximately 3.9 g/L at 20°C, and is also slightly soluble in methanol. Under normal ambient conditions, it demonstrates good chemical stability.
Melamine phosphate is widely incorporated into plastics, coatings, textiles, and other polymer-based materials to improve fire resistance. When exposed to combustion, it can release non-combustible gases such as nitrogen and facilitate the formation of a protective char layer, thereby helping reduce flame propagation and enhance the overall flame-retardant performance of the material.
