Products Description of Piperonyl Butoxide 95% CAS#51-03-6

Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO), also known as synergist ether, is widely used as a synergistic agent to enhance the insecticidal performance of pyrethrins, pyrethroids, rotenone, and carbamate insecticides. It can also improve the efficacy of a range of other insecticidal compounds, including fenitrothion, dichlorvos, chlordane, triclofenac, and atrazine. In addition, PBO may contribute to improved stability and performance of pyrethrum-based formulations.

In bioassays involving house flies, PBO has demonstrated a stronger synergistic effect with permethrin than octachlorodipropyl ether under certain test conditions. However, it does not appear to enhance the knockdown activity of cypermethrin against house flies.

For mosquito coil formulations, PBO does not generally provide a synergistic effect with allethrin and may, under certain conditions, negatively affect its insecticidal performance.

Product Application of Piperonyl Butoxide 95% CAS#51-03-6

This product is primarily used for the control of insect pests that infest stored grains, including rice, wheat, beans, and other cereal products. It is effective against common storage pests such as grain weevils and related insects.

It is frequently formulated in combination with pyrethrin-based insecticides, where it can provide a pronounced synergistic effect. For example, when pyrethrin is applied alone against house flies, the mortality rate may be approximately 46%. When used together with this product in a formulation containing 30 mg of this product and 400 mg of pyrethrin, the mortality rate can increase to around 92%.

For practical applications, this product is generally blended with pyrethrin at an approximate ratio of 1:10 and formulated into emulsions or dust formulations at concentrations of 0.05%–0.2%. Depending on application conditions, the resulting treatment may provide residual insecticidal or repellent protection for approximately 1 to 10 months.

Under Japanese regulatory requirements, the product may be applied to cereals subject to a maximum residue limit of 0.024 g/kg, calculated based on the active ingredient. One example of a combined insecticide formulation contains 1.2% of this product, 0.08% pyrethrins, and 98.72% inert mineral materials. For grain treatment, an application rate of approximately 120 g per 60 kg of grain may be used for spraying.
