Products Description of Direct Red 23 CAS#3441-14-3
Direct Red 23 (CAS# 3441-14-3) is a specialized azo direct dye supplied as a fine purple-red powder. It dissolves readily in water to yield a brilliant, clear red solution. The dye features unique chemical reactivity and diagnostic color transitions when exposed to different chemical environments:
Acidic Response: Aqueous solutions shift to a soft light blue upon adding dilute sulfuric acid, while concentrated hydrochloric acid induces a deep wine-red precipitate. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it dissolves into a brilliant magenta that transitions to a brownish-orange hue upon dilution. Concentrated nitric acid yields an orange-yellow precipitate.
Alkaline & Solvent Behavior: The dye turns reddish orange-brown in strong alkali and dissolves smoothly in concentrated ammonia water to form a bright red liquid. It is slightly soluble in ethanol (yielding an orange shade), insoluble in acetone, and remains undissolved in concentrated alkaline solutions.
Metallic Ion Sensitivity: During textile processing, contact with copper ions shifts the shade noticeably deeper, whereas iron ions exert minimal effect on the overall color appearance.

Product Application of Direct Red 23 CAS#3441-14-3
Exhibiting excellent affinity for natural and regenerated fibers, Direct Red 23 serves as a staple colorant across several industrial applications:
Textile & Fiber Dyeing: Extensively used for dyeing and printing cotton, linen, viscose, silk, and wool fibers—delivering rich standalone scarlet or madder-red (yellowish-red) tones.
Color Blending & Shading: Easily combined with yellow, orange, red, and brown dyes to formulate a wide spectrum of custom compound shades.
Paper, Leather & Lakes: Applied in paper tinting, leather finishing, and the manufacturing of insoluble lake pigments.
Post-Dyeing Finishing: Fully compatible with urea-formaldehyde resin finishes and standard fixing agents. Treatment with Fixing Agent Y preserves the original shade, while Fixing Agent M induces a distinct, attractive shift toward a cooler blue undertone.
