Products Description

Toluene 2,6-Diisocyanate (CAS No. 91-08-7) is an aromatic organic compound classified as an isocyanate. It has a molecular formula of C₉H₆N₂O₂ and a molecular weight of 174.16 g/mol. Under ambient conditions, it is typically present as a colorless to light-yellow transparent liquid. The product has a density of 1.225 g/mL at 25°C, a boiling point of 129–133°C at 18 mmHg, and a flash point above 230°F (approximately 127°C). Its vapor pressure is approximately 2 Pa at 20°C.

Toluene 2,6-diisocyanate is compatible with organic solvents such as benzene and acetone. Due to its high chemical reactivity, it reacts vigorously with water and can undergo rapid polymerization in the presence of alkaline substances. The material is also flammable and should be kept away from strong oxidizing agents.

Toluene 2,6-diisocyanate is primarily utilized as a reactive monomer in the manufacture of polyurethane flexible foams, coatings, elastomers, and other polyurethane-based materials. Its aromatic isocyanate functionality provides the reactivity required for polyurethane polymerization and related material-processing applications.
